If your dog is not vaccinated for rabies, you could now face a misdemeanor charge due to an update in City ordinance. In November, the City Council revised the ordinance, which now makes it a misdemeanor to not have your dog vaccinated against rabies. Violators will be allowed the opportunity to participate in the City’s CAP program (Citizen Awareness Project) which will help them avoid a criminal conviction on their record. Under current City Code, dogs must have a rabies vaccination to be licensed. Licensed or unlicensed dogs who are found not to be vaccinated can be impounded.
Due to recent legislative changes, the Coon Rapids City Attorney’s Office has suspended the Citizen Awareness Project (CAP) until further notice.
