Community Input Needed: Coon Rapids residents, businesses, and community stakeholders are invited to shape the future of development for the Port Riverwalk site situated along Coon Rapids Boulevard between Egret Boulevard and Avocet Street. Each of the four workshops will build on the information that will result in recommendations for the redevelopment of the Port Riverwalk site to be submitted to the Coon Rapids City Council, Planning Commission, and Housing and Redevelopment Authority. The Corridor Housing Initiative (CHI) is a nationally award winning community engagement process designed to help cities, neighborhoods, and developers proactively plan development along major corridors. The CHI process provides a technical team of design experts, development consultants, and facilitators to explore development options with community stakeholders. The heart of the process involves an interactive exercise that gives participants a hands-on opportunity to consider different development scenarios on identified opportunity sites, and determine whether the projects would be financially viable. The Port Riverwalk CHI community workshops series will be at Coon Rapids City Center and include: Workshop I: Gathering Information Workshop II: Development ABCs - Block Exercise Workshop III: Panel Discussion Market Feasibility Workshop IV: Build Consensus for Development Objectives All events are free and open to the public. To arrange for child care, contact Gretchen Nicholls, Twin Cities LISC, at 651-265-2280 or gnicholls@lisc.org one week in advance of each workshop.
For more information, contact Marc Nevinski or Matt Brown at 763-767-6430 or send an email to the Port Riverwalk email box. More information available at www.housinginitiative.org.
