CITY OF COON RAPIDS, MINNESOTA 7-201 Definition. “Dangerous weapon” means any firearm, whether loaded or unloaded, or any device designed as a weapon and capable of producing death or great bodily harm, or any other device or instrumentality which, in the manner it is used or intended to be used, is calculated or likely to produce death or great bodily harm. The term “dangerous weapon” shall include, but not be limited to, the following: (1) All firearms. 7-202 Prohibited Actions. (1) Whoever does any of the following is guilty of a misdemeanor: (a) Recklessly handles or uses a
gun or other dangerous weapon or explosive so as to endanger the safety of
another. (2) Nothing in this Section prohibits the possession of the articles mentioned by museums or collectors of art or for other lawful purposes of public exhibition. 7-203 Selling Gun to Minor Without Parental Consent. The selling, giving, loaning, or furnishing in any way of any dangerous weapon to a minor without written consent of the minor’s parents or guardian, is hereby prohibited. [Revised 8/8/01, Ordinance 1734] 7-204 Minors. No person under the age of 16 years may handle, possess, or be in control of a dangerous weapon unless the person is: (1) accompanied by a parent or
guardian; 7-205 Use of Dangerous Weapons Within City. Except as herein specifically authorized, all discharging and use of dangerous weapons are hereby prohibited. 7-206 Lawful Use of Dangerous Weapon. Nothing in this Chapter shall be construed to include any firing of a gun or use of other weapons when done in the lawful defense of persons or property or family, or the necessary enforcement of the law. 7-207 Special Permits. The Chief of Police or the Chief’s designee, may issue permits for the use of dangerous weapons for wildlife management programs. Permits under this section may be issued only to governmental agencies or to organizations and groups operating directly on behalf of a governmental agency. In order to be eligible for a permit, the program, applicant, and all participants in the program must meet any and all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances , rules and regulations. [Revised 8/8/01, Ordinance 1734] 7-208 Valid Permits. No permits issued under Title 5 and in accordance with Section 7-207 shall be deemed valid unless they are in writing and in the possession of the party using the permit. [Revised 8/8/01, Ordinance 1734] 7-209 Seizing, Impounding, and Destroying Weapons. Any person violating this Chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor; and, in addition thereto, any weapons used or carried shall be seized and impounded and destroyed on order of any court of competent jurisdiction.
