8-900 Storage of Wood

CITY OF COON RAPIDS, MINNESOTA
CHAPTER 8-900
STORAGE OF WOOD

8-901 Statement of Policy. The City Council finds and declares that the use of viable alternative energy sources is increasing in the City of Coon Rapids. It is the intent of the City to encourage such viable sources including wood. The Council also realizes that young children can become attracted to woodpiles and that climbing of such piles can result in injury to the children. To protect the public health and safety, the City Council enacts the following regulations.

8-902 Scope. This Chapter applies to the storage or keeping of wood on residential properties within the City where the wood is not stored within an enclosure capable of protecting the wood from the elements. It shall apply to any wood or wood product usually used or intended to be used as firewood in the residence or any accessory structure.

8-903 Conditions for Storage. Wood stored or kept in the City which is not contained within a covered enclosure impervious to the elements shall be stored or kept in neat and secure stacks no more than five (5) feet in height as measured from the ground surface, provided, however, that no wood shall be stacked within the required area of setback from a public street right-of-way.

8-904 Existing Woodpiles. Any woodpile in existence as of the first day of August, 1981, which does not comply with the provisions of this Chapter must be removed or placed in compliance with the terms of this Chapter within one (1) year after written notice to comply is given by the Zoning Administrator. Such notice shall be in writing and shall be served upon the property owner either in person or by certified mail.

8-905 Penalty. Failure to comply with the provisions of this Chapter shall be deemed the maintenance of a public nuisance in accordance with Chapter 8-100.
