The City of Coon Rapids
operates under a Charter adopted by the citizens in 1959. This Charter established
the Council/Manager form of government.
Under this plan the City Council is the legislative body and decides all matters
regarding policy. The Council appoints a City Manager
to oversee the daily operations of the City. The City Charter
also defines the responsibilities of various
departments within the City administration.
The City Council consists of a Mayor, a Councilmember At
Large and a Councilmember from each of five wards. (In November, 1992,
voters approved changing from a five member Council to a seven member
Council.)
The City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of
each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the City Center, 11155
Robinson Drive NW, Coon Rapids, MN, 55433.
Agendas and council packets are posted after 3:30 p.m. the Friday
before the upcoming Council Meeting.
The City Manager is chosen by the City
Council and is the Chief Administrative Officer of the City. The
City Manager is appointed for an indefinite period of time.
It is the City Manager’s responsibility to
direct the City’s business affairs, keep Council advised of the financial
condition of the City, oversee all departments and divisions, and
recommend to Council the adoption of measures necessary
for the well being of the citizens.
