As required by Minnesota law, a
process to update the City’s comprehensive plan is underway. A
comprehensive plan includes goals, policies, and maps related to
land use, transportation, parks and open space, housing, and water
resources. The city’s comprehensive plan should provide direction
for the development of long and short range implementation programs.
The City of Coon Rapids periodically evaluates the impact of those
implementation programs. The most recent effort was called The 2030
Visioning Plan.
The process of updating the comprehensive plan
began in September 2006 with an open house, at which residents
talked with City staff about planning issues. The Planning
Commission and City Council discussed the City’s key planning issues
at a January 2007 workshop. City staff then compiled at draft of the
new comprehensive plan, which has been considered by the Planning
Commission and City Council at workshops during the summer and fall
of 2007. This draft and corresponding maps are available below. The
Planning Commission held public hearings on the draft in December
2007 and January 2008 and the City Council approved it in March
2008. The Metropolitan Council is currently reviewing it for
consistency with its plans for transportation and infrastructure.
The City Council will formally adopt the updated comprehensive plan
upon completion of the Metropolitan Council’s review.
If you wish to talk with staff about Coon Rapids’
future or the plan update, please send an e-mail to Community
Development Director
Marc Nevinski or call the Community Development Department at
