Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Update 4-3-20

  • City Buildings including City Hall are CLOSED to the public. Effective the evening of 3-17-20 until further notice.
  • Police Department Remains Open to the Public 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. After hours, use lobby phone. For emergencies, call 911.

Despite buildings being closed, City staff in all departments are here to serve you!

All essential City services will continue as usual: examples include water, sewer, police & fire response. A few modifications of services have been implemented as needed; read more below. If residents have flu-like symptoms, please refer to the Minnesota Department of Health website for further information.


Mayor’s Declaration of Local Emergency

The Coon Rapids City Council approved the Mayor’s Declaration of Local Emergency at the 3-17-20 City Council meeting. Read the declaration here or watch that portion of the City Council meeting.

*Guests who purchased tickets to the winter concert featuring Betty Rydell will be refunded their ticket price starting June 1 (date subject to change based on events surrounding COVID-19). Tickets can be brought in to the front desk of City Hall as proof of purchase, and the receptionist will refund your ticket fee. We apologize for this inconvenience.


Updates by Department

Building Inspections Activities

Permits and Inspections are still required for projects, even during the state’s #StayHomeMN initiative.

Residential Inspections
Occupied homes which require entry will be inspected by video, using FaceTime or Google Duo (video chat mobile app).

New structures, vacant, and exterior work only inspections
Site visits will be done.

All commercial inspections
Site visits will be done.

Bunker Hills Golf Club

  • Entire facility is closed to the public per the Governor’s Executive Order until May 4. (includes golf shop, driving range, restaurant, GOLFTEC).
  • Kendall’s Tavern & Chophouse and Bunker Hills Event Center are also closed per the Governor’s Executive Order, until May 4.

City Council Meetings

  • City Council meetings are now occurring online through Zoom webinar software. Read more about how to provide public comments and how to participate in meetings.

Coon Rapids Civic Center

  • Facility closed to the public per Governor’s Executive Order through May 4.
  • All events canceled through Sunday, May 3.
  • Please read the latest policies regarding cancellations made by the Civic Center and/or if you are looking to cancel or reschedule your own private event.

Coon Rapids Ice Center

  • Facility closed to the public per Governor’s Executive Order until May 4.
  • All public skating events canceled through May 11
  • When You Believe Ice Show canceled April 23-26; may be rescheduled to later dates but this has not been determined.

Coon Rapids Senior Center

  • Facility closed to the public per Governor’s Executive Order until May 4.
  • All activities canceled until further notice.

Fire Department

Requests for fire truck visits to public events are canceled until further notice.


  • No new solicitor license applications will be accepted until further notice, beginning 3/18/20.

Parks and Playground Structures

Parks are open to the public to walk, ride bikes on trails, etc. while observing social distancing measures. Playground structures are CLOSED.

Police Department

  • Car Seat clinics canceled through May 10. May 11 car seat clinic may occur, however, that could change depending on Governor’s orders.
  • Appearance requests by an officer - canceled until further notice

Public Works Department

  • Water meter installations in private homes will no longer continue.

Services continue for:

  • Emergency water shut offs
  • Water shut off/repairs
  • Water pressure/leaking water meter (case by case basis) Call 763-767-6438.

Recycling Center

  • The Recycling Center is closed per the Governor’s #StayHomeMN initiative through April 10.
  • Fix it Clinic cancelled April 4
  • Paper Shredding Event cancelled May 2

Note for the Organics Program:

  • If you use the organics program, please continue to bring your materials during the facility closure. The organics bin has been moved outside of the gate for easy access. Please use social distancing measures and respect others in front of you when dropping off your materials. Thank you!

Riverwind Community Building

  • Facility closed to the public per Governor’s Executive Order until May 4.
  • All events canceled through Sunday, May 3.
  • Please read the latest policies regarding cancellations made by Riverwind staff and/or if you are in looking to cancel or reschedule your own private event at the Riverwind Community Building.
