Hydrant Flushing

Flushing & Inspecting Hydrants

Every spring, the City's utility crews begin flushing half of the fire hydrants in the city. This amounts to about 1500 hydrants every year! Hydrants north of highway 10 are flushed one year, then hydrants south of highway 10 are flushed the next year.

The process is part of a routine maintenance program necessary to maintain the water system and remove sediment from the lines.

This allows us to continue to deliver the highest quality water possible to our residents.

Brown Water

If crews are working in your neighborhood, you may experience some water discoloration, but this does not affect the safety of the water. It’s best to avoid doing laundry until the discoloration has disappeared.
