How to Request a Copy of a Police Report
You may request a copy of police report from our office by completing the online Request for Information Web Form or filling out the paper Request for Information Form (PDF). An Informed Consent for Release of Information (PDF) will be required if you are not the subject of the requested information. There are 3 ways you can submit your request to our office:
- Complete the request for information form online
- Fax your completed paper form to 763-767-6435
- Deliver your paper form, in person, to our office between the hours of 7 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday
Your request will be processed in the order it was received, and typical response time is within 7 business days.
How your Police Report is Delivered
On the web form or the paper form, you can designate how you want the police report to be delivered to you, whether it be by mail, fax, email or picked up in person. Police reports are free of charge if the report is 4 pages or less. Reports over 5 pages in length, are charged $.25 per page. Payments can be made in person at the Police Department lobby window.
There may be times in which our office cannot process your request due to limitations within the State of Minnesota Data Practices guidelines.
In other instances, our office may need to contact you for further information to process your request. Therefore, it is important that we have your contact information on the Request for Information Form in case our office needs to contact you.
