Bunker Hills Golf Club Celebrating 50 Years in Business

The Bunker Hills Golf Club is preparing to mark a golden milestone: 50 years of doing business in Coon Rapids.

July 8th, 1968. That's the date the original 18 holes opened as the "Coon Rapids Municipal Golf Course."  It would eventually expand and become Bunker Hills Golf Club.

Over the years, many have played the course including the pros, most everyone giving it rave reviews

"It was because there wasn't anything like it, we had a lot of community public golf courses and cities had public courses but there wasn't one of championship length with big bunkers and bent grass fairways and bent grass greens and tees, those were things you saw at private clubs not at a public golf course," says Former Bunker Hills Golf Director Dick Tollette.

The golf course will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on Sunday, July 8.  Between noon and 6 p.m., there will be a live DJ, free cake, prizes, complimentary golf instruction and food and drink specials.  Also, Kendall's Tavern and Chophouse will be serving a special three course meal all day long for $19.68.
