Anoka County Fairgrounds Decked Out in Holiday Lights

As Christmas approaches Santa is still checking his list to see who’s been naughty or nice.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus visited the Anoka County Fairgrounds December 7th, 8th & 9th where they were met by hundreds of children with their own lists in hand. The 23rd annual Holiday in Lights event offered free entertainment, snacks and hot chocolate for those cold winter days.

“A little bit of a holiday theme, we like to give back to our community so this is celebrating Christmas with our community,” said Tammy Fossum, the Anoka County Fair Board Director.

The fairgrounds are transformed each year with elaborate Christmas light displays. Wagon rides provide a comfortable way to see the decorations and fire pits help to keep you warm afterward. Santa and Mrs. Claus handed out candy canes and stuffed animals.

Although the event is free, visitors came with donations for Anoka County food shelves, Toys for Joy and Grannies Closet.

“The nice thing about all of these organizations, they primarily stay in Anoka County,” said Fossum.

The holiday decorations and lights will remain up through Christmas at the Anoka County Fairgrounds. You can drive or walk to the displays seven days a week. Gates close at 9 p.m. each night.
