Port Riverwalk Housing Development Update

Port Riverwalk proposed designs

A new housing development is coming to Coon Rapids Boulevard in 2019. Centra Homes plans to construct approximately 145 one-level and two-level detached townhomes in the Port Riverwalk area, located in the southern portion of the city near Coon Rapids Boulevard and Avocet Street. Site plans will go to the planning commission in early 2019 and construction is expected to begin in the spring.

Several infrastructure improvements in the area are also part of this project. The City is working with Anoka County to add new lighting and landscaping in the area, along with a sidewalk on the north side of Coon Rapids Boulevard and a trail on the south side of the boulevard. The traffic signal at Avocet Street will also be replaced. A pedestrian bridge is also an eventual possibility across Coon Rapids Boulevard, to help connect the north and south sides of the roadway for pedestrians. The City is seeking outside funding sources to assist with the cost of the bridge. It will take about three years to complete the entire development.

A public open house about the project was held in the fall. Questions may be directed to
