Students at Coon Rapids High School are learning the dangers of drug and alcohol from peers close to their own age. A substance use and prevention program called “Know the Truth” brings real life stories of addiction to the classroom.
“We’re hoping to change that stigma of it’s not going to happen to me. It happens to everyone,” said Know the Truth Presenter Anthony.
Students learn about the very real danger of using drugs, including fentanyl which is now used by drug dealers to lace other drugs.
“Recently eight kids from Forest Lake all overdosed from Xanax. All of them lived but not always will someone be there to save your life,” said Anthony told a classroom of high school students.
Antony says people are often introduced to drugs from someone they trust and saying “No” isn’t easy.
Since 2006, know the Truth as brought presentations like this to over 300,000 students.
