Neighborhoods in the northern part of the city may see contractors trimming boulevard trees in the coming weeks.
The City of Coon Rapids has a program to maintain 1/7th of the city's boulevard tree population each year. This year, several neighborhoods mainly in the northern part of the city are part of the tree trimming rotation schedule. See the map of tree trimming areas here.
Tree trimming is vital for the health of the tree.By maintaining a seven-year tree trimming rotation, the urban forest can be maintained in a safe, healthy and aesthetically pleasing condition. Tree trimming/pruning preserves tree health and appearance and prevents damage to human life and property. Trees which are not properly maintained are usually removed and replaced more often than trees that are well cared for. Elimination of unnecessary removal and replacement of trees, as well as reduction of high storm clean-up costs, is one of the main goals of the City Forester.
The City's contractor started tree trimming February 14 and will continue for the next several weeks.
