Fallen Officers Honored During Police Week Service

Communities across the country paused to remember all law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty during National Peace Officers Week. At the Anoka County Government center on May 15, fallen Anoka County officers were honored for the 23rd year.

“We seek to comfort their families and acknowledge their loss to their departments and communities. Today we come together as a profession, as a family and community to give thanks for the kind hearted individuals who willingly accepted the call to serve and protect others even at the risk and sometimes the cost of their own lives,” said Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart.

This year, a special tribute was given for fallen Deputy Ernest Zettergren. A procession of law enforcement vehicles began in Fridley at the site of his death in 1953, and concluded at the government center.

“Today we gather because we cannot and will not forget their sacrifice,” Sheriff Stuart said.

On May 14, the names of 371 fallen law enforcement officers were added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C.
