Centra Homes Detached Townhome Development/Local Street Improvements
Coon Rapids-based Centra Homes plans to develop 136 one-level and two-level detached townhomes to be built on 43 acres of vacant City-owned land generally between Egret Boulevard and Avocet Street. A site plan and preliminary plat for this development were approved by the City Council in the spring of 2019. While some development work will begin soon, it is expected to take about three years to complete the entire development. Some homes are expected to be completed later in 2020.
This project will involve removal of the frontage road on the south side of Coon Rapids Boulevard and realignment of several local streets in the area. Access to existing neighborhoods will remain open during the time of construction, but slight detours may take place at various times. Watch for posted signs in the area.
An estimate of the construction schedule is below:
Late July: install silt fence, begin tree clearing
August: begin removing old streets, water/sewer, begin site grading
September: begin construction of first phase of new streets and utilities near the intersection of Avocet Street and East River Road

Coon Rapids Boulevard Improvements
The City is also working with Anoka County on improvements to Coon Rapids Boulevard in this area. The work will include replacement of asphalt pavement, curb and gutter work, access modifications, and a revised lane configuration. It will also include new pedestrian-scale lighting and landscaping along the corridor, along with a sidewalk on the north side of Coon Rapids Boulevard and a trail on the south side of the boulevard. Traffic signals at Avocet Street and Egret Boulevard will also be replaced as part of the project. Construction is expected to take place in 2020. The City is also working to secure state and federal funding for a future pedestrian bridge to help connect the north and south sides of Coon Rapids Boulevard.
