The Minnesota Department of Transportation is working on several projects that will enhance the region’s transportation access in the coming years.
- 35W MnPASS Expansion
This project involves adding MnPASS lanes and auxiliary lanes to a 12-mile stretch of Interstate 35W between Roseville and Lino Lakes. Construction is currently underway and will continue through fall of 2021. While there will be significant travel impacts during construction, when complete, the project is expected to reduce congestion and provide more sustainable travel options in the future. - Highway 65 Safety and Mobility Study
MnDOT, Anoka County, and the cities of Blaine, Spring Lake Park, and Ham Lake are conducting a study through the summer of 2020 to address capacity, access, mobility, and safety issues along this important corridor within the region. While no specific construction projects are proposed at this time, the study will provide recommendations for improvements and speed the start of future projects. Learn more here.
- Highway 10 Improvements
Several improvements are planned along the Highway 10 corridor in Anoka County starting in 2022. These include removal of traffic signals and construction of an interchange and underpasses at Thurston and Fairoak Avenues in Anoka, replacement and widening of the Rum River bridge, and possible addition of auxiliary lanes. Projected reconstruction of the Ferry Street interchange is also estimated for 2024. These projects are expected to reduce traffic crashes, improve efficiency, relieve congestion, improve local circulation and connectivity, and provide pedestrians with walkways to local destinations. The City of Coon Rapids is part of the Greater Minnesota Gateway coalition that advocated for these important regional transportation improvements and continues to advocate for additional improvements along the Highway 10 corridor.
