Superheroes Join Forces to Help Combat Domestic Violence

Both children and adults embraced their inner superhero in Anoka on August 3rd.

The inaugural “Heroes Walk 4 Women” supports Alexandra House, a shelter for victims of violence that also provides education and advocacy for women and their children. The event also seeks to put an end to domestic and sexual violence.

“Today we come together with purpose to walk or fly if you’re able, to waken your inner hero, to fight domestic and sexual violence in our communities and to make a positive change so our youth and future generations will not have to endure the pain that domestic and sexual violence can cause in a person, a household and a community,” said Chief James Stewart with the Anoka Police Department.

Participants wore capes or dressed as well-known superheroes like Batman, Wonder woman, and Captain America.

“I think that coming out here dressed as superheroes gives you a sense of you know we can take this on and the capes and superheroes do it all,” said Diana Hudalla who was dressed as Wonder woman.

The Anoka County Police Department and Sheriff’s Office provided an up-close look at emergency response vehicles and participated in the walk, along with the Anoka Fire Department.

The Alexandra House offers a free and confidential help line. To reach them, call 763-780-2330 any time of the day or night.
