ACRED Strengthens Business Climate

Anoka County Regional Economic Development

The Anoka County Regional Economic Development Partnership (ACRED) is a partnership formed among all 21 communities and Anoka County to strengthen the existing business and economic landscape, along with attracting new investment to the region. Connexus Energy and the Metro North Chamber of Commerce have been major partners in this public-private partnership. Jacquel Hajder, the Economic Development Specialist for the ACRED partnership spends time marketing our regions assets, bringing stakeholders together, responding to projects and working with the communities to plan for continued investment in Anoka County. Jacquel also works with city government staff on specific projects and initiatives. Some of the partnership’s major initiatives have included:

Developing a new regional economic development web site, www.anokacountysuccess.org that includes regional and target industry profiles. The web site is intended to reach an audience of regional commercial real estate professionals, as well as national site selectors.

Ensuring that the region is ready for business development and expansion from a land, building, workforce and incentive standpoint. This includes identifying large building vacancies or large lots throughout Anoka County and assisting with marketing. The partnership has also been hosting events for commercial real estate brokers, bankers, and major employers.

Bringing together partners that all have a stake in economic development to work on a regional strategy that doesn’t duplicate efforts. The partnership is developing regional business retention and expansion strategy to ensure all economic development stakeholders that interface with businesses have an open path of communication to ensure it doesn’t miss opportunities to help existing companies expand and remain in the region.

The ACRED partnership works in concert with city government staff, Chambers of Commerce, utilities, and other organization charged with business retention and attraction. A few major recent commercial and industrial projects in Coon Rapids and Andover have included:

  • A new 85,000 square foot office-warehouse building along Highway 10 in Coon Rapids next to the USF Holland freight terminal.
  • A new facility for Rihm Kenworth, a truck dealer and service provider along Highway 610.
  • A 100,000 square foot expansion of Green Bay Packaging’s facility in Coon Rapids.
  • A new warehouse for Steinwall, Inc., a Coon Rapids-based plastics manufacturer.
