Detective Honored

Glass Star-shaped award

Cameron Gustafson, a detective with the Coon Rapids Police Department, has been honored with the Child Passenger Safety Star Award from the Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths program. The award honors individuals who are making a difference to reduce traffic fatalities in Minnesota.

Gustafson teaches parents and guardians how to install car seats correctly at several car seat installation clinics held each year in Coon Rapids. The clinics are offered to Coon Rapids residents, free of charge, through Safe Kids Anoka County. Minnesota’s Toward Zero Deaths program is based on the belief that even one traffic-related death on the state’s roads is unacceptable.

Police Detective receiving awardThe “zero deaths” idea was first adopted in Sweden in 1997 as "Vision Zero" and since then has evolved to several state transportation departments, including Minnesota, that have identified zero deaths as a core objective in their Strategic Highway Safety Plans.
