Holiday Lighting Contest

2016 Holiday Lighting Contest - Enter By this Thursday, December 8 at Noon!

Help light up the city and spread holiday cheer! You could also win a prize at the same time! Enter the Coon Rapids Arts Commission Holiday Lighting Contest! Entries will be judged based on overall impact, visual appeal, uniqueness, variety, safety and tidiness.
Categories:
Still – Property (non-moving light display on a house, yard, fence, tree or any combination listed)
Motion – Property (moving light display on a house, yard, fence, tree or any combination listed)
Prizes: $100 - 1st place in each category, $50 - 2nd place in each category

Judging by members of the Coon Rapids Arts Commission will take place December 16-18 between the hours of 6-9 p.m. Winners will be notified by members of the commission and announced in the January 2017 Coon Rapids Connection newsletter, on social media and on the City website.

Winners are selected by the Arts Commissioners and all decisions are final.

See the Holiday Lighting Addresses Online!

.All of the addresses entered into the Holiday Lighting contest will be posted on the City's website by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 9. A map of the addresses will also be included. Print off the map, grab the hot chocolate and take a tour of the lights!

Skate with Santa at the Coon Rapids Ice Center

Sunday, December 18, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Someone special is coming to the Coon Rapids Ice Center on Sunday December 18! Families are invited to visit with Santa and see some great figure skating at the same time! The Coon Rapids Ice Center is hosting a figure skating exhibition, as well as a special skating opportunity for the public.  Take your photo with Santa and have fun skating on the indoor ice rink!

The Coon Rapids Ice Center is an official Toys for Tots drop-off location. The public is invited to bring toys for donation to this event as well. For every toy donated, receive a coupon for a buy one get one free public skating pass. (Limit three)

A Holiday Musical Comedy for the Whole Family!

It’s Christmas Eve in Bunyan Bay, Minnesota and cantankerous bar owner Gunner Johnson gets in an argument with his wife, Clara, tells her he’s skipping Christmas, he storms out of the bar, goes snowmobiling across the lake, falls through the ice on his skidoo and goes into a coma. He comes back in his dream where he’s visited by folk legend, Sven Yorgensen, who plays the ghost of Christmas past, present, and future. Sven takes Gunner (Scrooge) on a journey similar to that in Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” only very different. Will Gunner come out of his coma and find redemption with Clara at The Bunyan? Find out.

Holiday Toy Drop-Off Locations

Toys for Joy- City Hall, 11155 Robinson Drive
Drop off your new toy to Coon Rapids City Hall to benefit Toys for Joy. The goal of Toys for Joy is to ensure that all children in Anoka County have gifts under their Christmas tree each year. Toys for Joy welcomes donations of food, toys and cash. The last day to drop off toys is December 15.

Toys for Tots - Coon Rapids Ice Center, 11000 Crooked Lake Blvd.
New, unwrapped toys can also be dropped off at the Coon Rapids Ice Center, a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. The last day to drop off toys is December 18, as part of the Skate with Santa event from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Tiny Tots Toy Drive- Fire Station 3, 2831 113th Avenue NW
The fifth annual Tiny Tots Toy Drive collects and delivers gifts for children ages 1-18 in the pediatric wing of Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. The final day to donate a new, unwrapped toy is December 15.

Toys For Tots Free Santa Train

Help support Toys For Tots by bringing a new, unwrapped toy and ride the Northstar train with Santa on Saturday, December 17. This event is FREE with a toy.

The train departs Riverdale Station in Coon Rapids at 11:25 a.m. and arrives at Target Field at 11:52 a.m. The FREE Santa Train departs Target Field Station at 2:30 p.m.
Activities:
* Write a letter and deliver it to Santa
* Pose for photos with Santa
* Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies served at Target Field
