Business Spotlight - Pappy's Cafe

Pappy’s Café might be newer to Coon Rapids, however, the roots of the family-owned restaurant have been planted in this community for decades.

Restaurant owner Rich Blood worked previously as an employee at the B.K. Family Restaurant on Martin Street since 1987. When the owner of B.K.’s was set to retire in July 2016, Rich took the opportunity to buy the business and make the restaurant his own, now called Pappy’s Café, named after Rich’s father.

Growing up in the area, Rich has seen Coon Rapids develop from dirt roads to highways, and vacant lots to packed shopping areas. Working side-by-side, Rich and his wife Jill have taken on this business together, along with Rich’s father. The trio has set out to bring a family atmosphere to their restaurant.

“Each person coming in isn’t just another customer, we try to get to know them and form a relationship” says owner, Rich Blood. Regular diners come in for breakfast, a joyful server greets them by name and verifies they want their “usual.”

Surrounded by many chain restaurants here in Coon Rapids, Rich takes pride in the fact that Pappy’s Café is different; small town personal service, great tasting food and low prices. This spring, Pappy’s Café will open a new segment of business: Pappy’s Tavern, located right next door. Pappy’s offers a variety of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including a Seniors menu. Here are just a few of Pappy’s menu items - and the restaurant is also known for the caramel rolls!
