Housing Development

Coon Rapids Boulevard Housing Development

Construction could begin later this year on a new housing development in Port Riverwalk, located in the southern portion of the city near Coon Rapids Boulevard and Avocet Street. Centra Homes is interested in constructing 157 one-level and two-level townhomes. No final decision has been made yet on the proposal, but a development agreement and site plan are expected later this spring. The plans would then come before the Coon Rapids Planning Commission and City Council for final approvals.

If all approvals are granted, construction could begin in late summer or early fall. It will take about three years to complete the entire development. The City of Coon Rapids is also working with Anoka County on potential improvements to Coon Rapids Boulevard in this area which would ideally include a pedestrian bridge near Avocet Street, sidewalk and trail improvements and ornamental lighting and landscaping.

More information about this development project will continue to be available in future City newsletters and on the City website.

Business Spotlight: Rediscover the Foley/Northdale Business District

The retail area near Foley and Northdale Boulevards is one of the oldest in the city. Jensen’s Foods has called this area home for more than 50 years. Other long-standing businesses include Shortstop Bar & Grill, Bromley Printing and Foley Boulevard Animal Hospital. The roads in this area were under construction last year thanks to a road enhancement project managed by Anoka County, but construction is complete and businesses in the area are ready for visitors. If you haven't visited this area of Coon Rapids in awhile, take a tour of this part of town!
