The City’s Comprehensive Plan update is completed every ten years as part of a regional planning cycle completed by the Metropolitan Council. The process starts with the Census, which was most recently completed in 2010. The next step in the process is an update to the Regional Framework, which the Metropolitan Council has branded as Thrive MSP 2040. The Regional Framework addresses regional assets and planning such as transportation, parks and open space, sanitary sewer, as well as forecasts for households, population, and employment for the region as a whole. The City of Coon Rapids Comprehensive Plan will be completed by the end of 2018 after City Council approval. The Comprehensive Plan will guide future development, transportation, housing, water resources, parks, and other public facilities through the year 2040.
