Port Riverwalk

Road Construction to Begin

Street removal and realignment planned

Street reconstruction will be among the first physical signs of change at the Port Riverwalk site near Egret Boulevard and Avocet Street.

The development project, which includes 136 townhomes on 43 acres of vacant city-owned land, is expected to take about three years to complete.

A site plan and preliminary plat were approved by the City Council in the spring of 2019 and development work will begin soon, including several road construction projects.

The project requires removal of the frontage road on the south side of Coon Rapids Boulevard and realignment of several existing streets in the area. Access to neighborhoods will remain open during construction, but slight detours may take place at various times.

An estimate of the construction schedule is as follows:

  • Late July: install silt fence, begin tree clearing
  • August: begin removing old streets, water/sewer, and begin site grading
  • September: begin construction of first phase of new streets and utilities near the intersection of Avocet Street and East River Road

The image below shows affected streets that may experience detours or shutdowns. Watch for posted signs in the area.
