Call the Utilities Division. Someone is on call 24 hours a day for water and sewer emergencies. If you are experiencing a sewer backup in your home, call us first. You may be able to avoid an unnecessary service call and charge from a drain company if the problem is in the main line.
During regular business hours of 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., you may call Public Works at 763-755-2880.
At any other time call 911 and Utilities Division personnel will be dispatched to your home to analyze the problem. Also, call the City at 763-755-2880 if you are having your sewer line cleaned. This will help our crews be prepared for any tree roots or other debris that may clog the City’s main lines.
Water meters are maintained by the City. Plumbing valves, fittings and the service line to the curb stop are the responsibility of the property owner. Clear the area around your water meter to keep it accessible for ease of maintenance and reading.

Curb stops which isolate a service line from the main line in the street should be located and "at grade" for emergency shutoffs. City Code prohibits the use of electric welders for thawing frozen water lines.

Yes, an odd/even sprinkling ban is typically in effect every year from June 1 - August 31. In 2021, the sprinkling ban was extended past August 31 until further notice, due to drought conditions and high water use. This means houses with an odd number address water on odd numbered days and even numbered addresses water on even numbered days. If necessary during periods of drought, additional restrictions may be imposed to ensure sufficient water supply for firefighting and every day necessities. It is best to water your lawn during the early morning hours. You should also set your rain sensor to detect when it’s raining so that your sprinkler system does not go off. Exceptions are made for new sod, seed and shrubs planted within the last 30 days.
Hydrants are flushed beginning in the spring to help remove iron and manganese sediment and to ensure each hydrant is operating properly.
Every spring, City utility crews flush half of the fire hydrants in the city. If crews are working in your neighborhood, you may experience some water discoloration, but this does not affect the safety of the water. It’s best to avoid doing laundry until the discoloration has disappeared.
If you have no water check to see if the water valves are open at the water meter by turning them counter-clockwise. If you have done this and there still is no water, call Public Works at 763-755-2880.
If you have low water pressure first make sure both valves before and after the water meter are completely open. Next, check the outside faucet. If the water pressure is good, then the problem is inside your home. If you are unable to determine the cause, call Public Works at 763-755-2880.
Don’t dig until you call Gopher State One Call at 651-454-0002 (also known as 811) to mark all underground installations on your property. It is a requirement by law. A 48-hour notice is required before doing any work.
